Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) was formed, giving resources to local public health and partners to support smoke-free housing.
Smoke-free housing incorporated into Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs).
Live Smoke Free
ISFA becomes Live Smoke Free (LSF). LSF begins tracking smoke-free housing policies in Minnesota. **

First Smoking Policy Disclosure
Duluth becomes the first city in Minnesota to implement an ordinance requiring disclosure of smoking policies in rental apartments.
All Public Housing Goes Smoke-Free
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced a rule requiring all public housing to adopt smoke-free policies by July 2018.

St. Paul Adopts Smoking
Disclosure Ordinance
St. Paul adopts an ordinance requiring disclosure of smoking policies in common interest communities (CICs).
5,000 smoke-free hosing policies identified.
Minnesota Legalizes Adult-Use Cannabis
As of August 1, 2023, adult-use cannabis (also known as marijuana) is legal in Minnesota.

Minnesota Cannabis and Multi-Unit Housing Law
The smoking and vaping of non-medical cannabis is prohibited in a multi-unit housing setting starting July 1, 2024.

Live Smoke Free continues to provide support to property managers, owners and decision makers with the adoption, implementation and enforcement of smoke-free housing policies in Minnesota.
